On June 24, 2018, Journey Out will host its Second Annual Viisionaries of Freedom Awards, where awards will be presented to a magnificent group of honorees who have given their support, voice, and expertise to address the problem of domestic and transnational human sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, particularly in Southern California.

  • Los Angeles Police Department Lieutenant Marc Evans – 2018 Law Enforcement awardee
  • President, Communities in Schools, Bobby Arias – 2018 Community Partner awardee
  • Dr. Susie Baldwin, Co-Founder HEAL Trafficking – 2018 Clinician awardee
  • Jasmine Kohanim – 2018 Volunteer of The Year

Through this ceremony we hope to: (1) Advocate on the behalf of our clients – victims and Survivors of human sex trafficking, (2) Continue our work of educating law enforcement, health and human service professionals, as well as community members about the nature of human sex trafficking, prevention and intervention, (3) Recognize champions in the fight to abolish human trafficking, (4) and strengthen collaborative efforts – by bringing partners together.

THE BENEFICIARIES – THOSE WHO WE SERVE: At Journey Out we provide direct services at no-cost to all victims of sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, regardless of age, sex/gender, sexual orientation, or documented status.

THE PROGRAM: The evening will include live performances, an original film short (PSA) created by volunteers & staff at Journey Out, as well as a fashion show – showcasing the transition that our clients undergo.

The MC for the evening is Emmy Award winning stage and movie actor, Obba Babatundé, who has appeared in more than 17 stage productions, 30 theatrical films, and 60 made-for-television movies. He has been seen on many television shows, such as "The Bold and the Beautiful", "The Young and the Restless", "Boston Legal", "Grey's Anatomy", "NCIS", and "Cold Case". As well as films, such as The Manchurian Candidate," "The Notebook," "John Q," "How High," "That Thing You Do!," and "Philadelphia."
